Oyster Bar Crawl: Exploring New Haven’s Oyster Bars

Craving the salty brine of oysters? Well, you’ve come to the right place. New Haven restaurants have some of the best surf and turf combinations on the east coast but where can one taste some of the best oysters in town?

Here is our quick guide to our New Haven Oyster Bar Crawl.

Fair Haven Oyster Company

One thing that doesn’t go unnoticed by the patrons at Fair Haven Oyster Company is that the chefs put a lot of pride in their food. It’s obvious in the way that the food is always fresh and plated. The same goes for their oysters.

Here, the oyster menu is extensive, offering east point, ningret, sweet island kiss, beausoleil and kusshi oysters. Going beyond oysters, there’s also raw scallops and tuna, mussels in escabeche and squid in ink, just to name a few. View Fair Haven Oyster’s full menu.

Shell & Bones Oyster Bar and Grill

A favorite in New Haven, Shell & Bones offers a daily selection of oysters. From Puffer Petite to Moon Shoal, to Summerside and Edge Water oysters, you’ll find the oysters here are fresh and ready to order based on your preferences.

Of course, beyond oysters, Shell & Bones goes all in with Clams Casino, and their Mussel Pot. View Shell & Bones’ full menu.

Castiron Chef Chophouse and Oyster Bar

Castiron Chef Chophouse and Oyster Bar is another local favorite. Serving Blue Point Oysters at $2.50 each, or go for the Cast Iron Chef Tower — 5 lobster tails, 6 colossal shrimp, 6 littleneck clams, 6 blue point oysters and 2 snow crab clusters. This dish is for four people but that’s only a suggestion. View Castion Chef Chophouse and Oyster Bar’s full menu.
